Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology comprises of tools, resources, programs, and equipment that aids students in studying, researching, and completing assignments. Workshops provided by LDAO Chatham-Kent will include software packages such as Kurzweil, Dragon Naturally Speaking and Premier Suite. Patrons will receive necessary hardware to complete the workshop including laptops, headsets, and microphones which will be returned upon completion of the workshop.

Assistive Technology allows users who struggle with reading and writing the opportunity to reduce frustrations often incurred with school assignments and other daily activities. Our workshops will consist of basic training on such applications in terms of how to operate them and operate them well. Headset placement, scanning tutorials and basic functions within the software applications will be explored.

Our workshops will be presented to students, teachers, and parents within the Chatham-Kent and surrounding communities. Workshops will remain separate, meaning students will attend their own workshop which may differ slightly that ones presented to teachers and/or parents.
